The guy wrote the post in 2013. Noob, ain’t I?
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
Several days ago, a guy wrote a post about German Cars being better than American cars. He and others wrote many words.
Can anyone help me find that post? I have zero success with the Kinja search feature.

use google and type in Site: oppositelock.kinja.com and then your search terms.

Does that mean it’s sort of lost to the Great Random?

If he wrote a story about German cars being better than American cars, he must have wrote it back when Clinton was still in office.

I gotta second this.
Having a search that actually works and corresponds to titles = more sharing = more site popularity.
- unacceptable in this day and age not to have a search feature that works
- INCREDIBLY UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE A SEARCH FEATURE THAT RETURNS FALSE NEGATIVES, eg i search for bratwurst but the article titled “ tasty german bratwurst’ never makes it to the search result.
from a software guys pov this is fucking garbage and it makes me want to tear my hair out

It’s this post:

I can’t really help with the Kinja search, but since I remembered who wrote it... Guy was really prolific back in ‘13, and... kind of full of himself, to be honest. More here, if you must:

Why don’t you tell us how you really feel?
Maybe the just need to add a toggle that says, “Return relevant answers.”

I mustn’t. But I typed a reply that I wanted to capture and maybe start a new post.
Happy FOJ!

I just thought while I was being helpful I’d be “helpful” as well. That post needed some contextualizing regarding its author for perspective. Possibly editorializing as well.

Well I pose the question; what is the point of a search feature if it doesn’t return your search?
Anyways I think the system has improved but arghh there still needs to be some other type of categorization or tagging.
The reason I’m vocal about it is 99% of the time it’s because I’ve switched devices or locations and I speak with a friend and want to share the article with them, then I can’t end up finding it, and that makes me go nuts.
Anyways if you really need to find an article google search something like this “jalopnik+bmw z4 nurburgring” and then using search tools restrict the date accordingly.

Can you elaborate?

In my case, I wanted to review a reply that I’d made. I ought to be able to review all of my replies if I want to. Hopefully, Kinja will get developed further.

I was saying that pointing out that the author was a crank with a very peculiar idee fixe and an ego the size of Staten Island by linking to a lot of his pieces wasn’t being helpful to you, at least not in the same respect as just linking the one you wanted. I was also saying that even if you didn’t need to know that, it would put things in their proper context... and allow me to be a bit snide.
